Common questions

Straight answers about privacy, who can see what, and why measuring your real workload matters.

Is my data safe?
Yes. Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest, and held on a UK/EU-hosted database protected by row-level security — each person can only ever read their own records. Tempo GP holds no patient data; it is a workforce and wellbeing tool, not a clinical system. The company is ICO-registered and the security headers and controls are set out on the Security page.
Can anyone else see my, or our practice's, scores?
No one sees your individual entries unless you choose to share them. Within a practice, your lead only sees aggregated totals — never your row by row day. To protect everyone's privacy, any team figure needs at least three clinicians to have contributed before it appears. The optional cross-practice comparison goes further: it is opt-in, shown only against a band of similar practices (never named), and needs at least 12 practices before a single figure renders. You can read the full guarantees on the Privacy page.
Is this run by the government?
No. Tempo GP is built and run by an independent company (Studystreaks Ltd). It exists to help practices evidence their real workload for their own governance, appraisals and safe-working conversations — not as an NHS or health-board reporting tool. Practices own their data and can export or delete it at any time.
Why is knowing our true workload important?
A GP contract is usually built around a 40–46 week clinical year, but the work that falls outside those booked sessions — admin, results, cover, supervision — is largely invisible. We call that the Hidden Workload. Measuring it shows whether demand is sustainable, where the pressure actually sits, and gives a practice honest evidence to protect the team instead of relying on impression.
How can knowing my true workload help us develop our team?
Because every minute is tagged to one of the six domains of GP work, you can see exactly where time goes — and where it is missing. That spots supervision gaps, shows whether training time is protected, supports appraisals and revalidation, and gives you evidence to justify additional roles (ARNRS pharmacists, physios, mental-health practitioners) or sessional cover where it is genuinely needed.
Does it hold any patient data?
No. Tempo GP records how clinicians spend their time, not who they saw. There are no patient names, NHS numbers, or clinical details anywhere in it. That keeps it well clear of clinical-system rules and makes it straightforward for IG and security reviewers to approve.
How long does it take to log a day?
A few seconds. The Quick Record screen lets you capture a whole day on one screen, and a reminder fires automatically when your last contracted session ends so you can finish while the day is fresh. For fuller or more detailed days you can use the paper sheet (photographed and read back to you) or the on-screen 15-minute grid.
Does it work offline on a phone?
Yes. Tempo GP is a PWA you can install to your home screen. If you lose signal, your entries are queued on the phone and sync the moment you are back online, and your sign-in stays open through short outages so you are never locked out in a dead zone.
Can I use it as a locum?
Yes. Individual subscribers can join more than one practice at a time, temporarily, using a shared team code — ideal for locums and sessional GPs who work across sites. Your time stays yours; each practice only ever sees its own aggregated picture.
How much does it cost?
From £50 a year for an individual clinician, and practice plans are a single annual payment sized to your list (never per-patient). There is a 3-month free trial with no card needed, and you can cancel any time. Full pricing is shown on the home page.
What happens to my data if I leave?
You can export everything at any time. If you close your account, your records are kept briefly (in case you return) and then deleted on the schedule set out on the Terms page. Practices can close their account from their own settings — there is no lock-in.
Is it only for the UK?
No. Tempo GP works across the UK, Ireland, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, with local safe-working guidance and local currency for each. Anywhere else, choose International when you set up and your hours are measured against general safe-working guidance. The framework and wording adjust automatically to your nation, so the figures stay relevant wherever you practise.
