Getting Tempo GP through NHS web filters
NHS Health Board, ICB and Trust networks filter web traffic automatically. New sites are often blocked simply because they are not yet categorised — not because of anything on them. This page gives your IT team everything they need, and gives your practice a way to keep recording in the meantime.
1. Send this to your IT service desk
Written for eHealth / IT helpdesks. It states plainly that no patient identifiable data is involved, which is the question they always ask first.
Subject: Request to whitelist practice management tool: tempogp.app Dear eHealth / IT Service Desk, Please whitelist the following web application for practice staff use across the Health Board network. URL: https://tempogp.app Supplier / product: Tempo GP Purpose: Internal GP practice workload management, BMA safe working compliance and staff wellbeing tracking. It is used by GP partners, salaried GPs, practice managers and wider practice team members to record how their working time is spent and to produce practice-level workload reports. Data and information governance - The application does NOT store, transmit or process any Patient Identifiable Data (PID/PII) or clinical records. - The only data recorded is anonymous counts of activity (for example, number of appointments, minutes spent on administration) and the staff member's own name and work email for their account. - No integration with any clinical system is required or possible. No software is installed on Health Board devices. - Access is over HTTPS (TCP 443) only, in a standard browser. Technical summary - Single domain: tempogp.app (and www.tempogp.app). - TLS 1.2/1.3 with a publicly trusted certificate; HTTP redirects to HTTPS. - No plugins, ActiveX, Java or local installation. No inbound connections to the Board network. - Suitable filter categories: "Health and Medicine" or "Business / Enterprise Software". Current status The site is currently blocked on the Board network, we believe under the "Uncategorised site" or "Newly registered / newly seen domain" web filtering rule rather than for any content reason. Requested action Please allow https://tempogp.app (and its subdomains) for practice staff, and if possible recategorise it as above rather than adding a one-off exception. Thank you for your assistance in restoring access for our practice management team. Kind regards, [Your name] [Practice name and GP practice code] [Contact number / email]
2. Ask for the right category
Filters pull from shared reputation databases. Submitting the domain to these once will often unblock it across several boards without any local ticket. Ask for Health and Medicine or Business / Enterprise Software, for the domain tempogp.app.
- Cloudflare Radar — domain categorisation
Used by many board filters as a reputation source.
- Palo Alto Networks — Test A Site
Check the current category, then request a change.
- Cisco Talos Intelligence
Feeds Cisco Umbrella, common across NHS Scotland boards.
- Zscaler site review
Used where boards run Zscaler.
- Forcepoint / Smoothwall site lookup
Used by several English ICBs.

4. Keep recording while you wait — use a phone
Tempo GP is built for a phone. On mobile data or practice guest Wi-Fi it is outside the Board filter entirely, so it works today. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
iPhone / iPad
- Open tempogp.app in Safari
- Tap the Share button
- Tap “Add to Home Screen”
Android
- Open tempogp.app in Chrome
- Tap the ⋮ menu
- Tap “Install app” or “Add to Home screen”
Paper still works too: print the day sheet, mark it as you go, and photograph it when you are next off the Board network.
Tempo GP is an administrative workload and wellbeing tool for general practice teams. It is not a clinical system and holds no patient identifiable data.
